MEMPHIS--May 12 marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in southwestern China that killed tens of thousands of people and destroyed more than 5 million homes. After the disaster, International Paper and its employees offered support to the victims through the company sponsored charity, The Employee Relief Fund (ERF).
Donations from the company and employees around the globe poured into the ERF and totaled more than
$319,000. The majority of those funds were given to the Red Cross and its local relief agency the Red Crescent. These funds helped families with short term needs like food, clothing and basic shelter as well as longer-term recovery efforts, including a measles immunization campaign, rebuilding homes and construction on village water supply systems. Thanks to your generosity, The Employee Relief Fund stands ready to assist employees facing hardship following a disaster. From floods to fires and tornadoes to hurricanes, employees rely on the fund to help when they need it the most.
